Dr.
Santiago Brugo Olmedo
A man who
has seven children, no matter what his profession may be, is by
spontaneous deduction, someone with special respect for fatherhood. But
if moreover, this man is an Andrologist and specialized in Assisted
Reproduction, that respect starts to become passion. (Back cover of the

Specialized in Human Reproductive Medicine and Andrology, Doctor
Santiago Brugo Olmedo was part of the team which performed the first in
vitro fertilization in Argentina, in 1985. Thanks to this successful and
at that time revolutionary method, the tucumanos twins Pablo and
Eliana Delaporte were born on 7th. February, 1986 and they
are the first of a current list of more than ten thousand Argentineans
born through assisted fertilization procedures.
Doctor
Santiago Brugo Olmedo studied Medicine at the National University of
Cordoba, Argentina, and got his degree as a medical surgeon in 1977.
Afterwards, he did his post-grade training at the Endocrinology Service
of the Ricardo Gutierrez Children’ s Hospital in Buenos Aires, at the
Barcelona Puigvert Foundation and at the In Vitro Fertilization
Laboratory of
The Howard and Georgeanna Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine,
Eastern Virginia Medical School de Norfolk, Virginia, United States.
Brugo
Olmedo was Chief of the Andrology Consulting Offices of the 1st. Chair
of Gynecology of the Clinics National Hospital in Buenos Aires and
member of the In Vitro Fertilization/ GIFT Laboratory of the Center of
Studies on Gynecology and Reproduction (CEGyR), where he got to be Chief
of the Andrology Department in 1986.
In
1985-1986 he was effective member and associated researcher at The
Howard and Georgeanna Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine, Eartern
Virginia, Medical School, Norfolk, Virginia, USA.
A year
later, between 1987 and 1988, he worked as the Department Chief of
Teaching and Investigation of the Edgardo Nicholson Foundation and from
1988 to 2005, as Director of the CEGyR Embryology Laboratory. In this
scenario, from 1995 to 2005 he was Medical Director of this entity.
In
February 2000 he had the role of “Evaluator” for the accreditation of
the Assisted Reproduction Centers situated in Brazil.
Since
2006 he has directed the Center specialized in human reproduction:
SEREMAS, Medicine for Men and Women, of which he is the Medical
Director.
The
Argentinean Society of Andrology has had Dr. Brugo Olmedo among his
members since 1984. In this society he had the position of pro secretary
from 1988 to 1990.
Between
1991 and 1993 he was Director of Publications of the Argentinean Society
for Sterility and Fertility, and he has been a member since 1984.
He has
also been an active member of the American Fertility Society since 1985
and member of The American Society of Andrology.
In the
Latin-American area he has been Foreigner Member of the Brazilian
Society of Human Reproduction (since 1992) and the Colombian Society of
Human Reproduction (since 1995)
The
Colombian Association of Fertility and Sterility named him “Foreigner
Honorary Member” in 1998.
The
Argentinean Society of Urology has counted him among his members since
1995.
He is
currently the vice-president of the Argentinean Society of Andrology.
Along his
long career he has received numerous awards and recognitions.

Conferences
His
trajectory as a specialist in human reproduction includes his
participation in congresses and scientific meetings in different
countries, among them, France, Italy, Austria, Ireland, Spain, Morocco,
Switzerland, Singapore, Canada, United States, Mexico, Peru, Chile,
Brazil and Argentina, where he has given presentations on different
aspects of andrology and reproduction in 125 opportunities.
